ITHACA, N.Y. – The Empire 8 Conference released its President's List for the spring 2017 semester and nineteen team and 180 student-athletes from Ithaca College were recognized. Across the entire conference, 123 teams and nearly 900 student-athletes from the league's nine full-time institutions and nine affiliate schools were honored.
Recipients of this honor must earn a 3.75 grade point average or higher while participating in a conference-sponsored sport. In addition, the student-athlete must display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution. The conference states, "Its commitment to serve the educational needs of its student-athletes is the hallmark of the Empire 8."
The 123 teams and 897 student-athletes are both all-time highs. The previous high for student-athletes was 883 in the fall of 2016, while 119 teams was the previous standard from spring 2016.
Ithaca's 180 student-athletes represented all 27 programs that the College sponsors for intercollegiate athletics on the President's List. Women's track & field led all of Ithaca's programs with 27 students on the list, while women's crew was second with 18.
Nineteen of the Bombers' 27 sports were acknowledged as an Empire 8 All-Academic Team for accumulating a team grade-point average of 3.2 or higher. Field hockey (3.466), golf (3.852), gymnastics (3.564), men's cross country (3.475), men's soccer (3.374), men's track & field – I & O (3.358), softball (3.441), women's basketball (3.586), women's crew (3.482), women's cross country (3.643), women's lacrosse (3.440), women's soccer (3.632), women's swimming & diving (3.658), women's tennis (3.655), women's track & field – I & O (3.614), wrestling (3.267) and volleyball (3.727) were all honored for their hard work in the classroom.
