Volleyball Nets Three AVCA All-Region Honors, Stone Named Region Rookie of the Year

AVCA Release

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released its All-Region selections ahead of NCAA Regional Round action on Thursday. Ithaca picked up three selections in the release, as freshman Reagan Stone was named AVCA First Team New York Region, while senior Joelle Goldstein and sophomore Caitlyn Floyd were Honorable Mention AVCA New York Region selections. Stone not only earned the First Team nod on Thursday, as she was also named the AVCA New York Region Rookie of the Year.

The AVCA announcement rounds out a big week for the trio, as all three players appeared in the Liberty League's All-League release on Wednesday. Both Stone and Floyd were named All-Liberty League First Team selections, while Goldstein was an All-Liberty League Second Team honoree. Stone was also named Liberty League Rookie of the Year. Ithaca's three selections is one more than last season, while it equals the total posted during the 2015 campaign. It is the third consecutive season that IC has had at least one player selected.

Stone leads the Bombers heading into the NCAA Tournament Regional Rounds this weekend, amassing 322 kills and a .286 hitting percentage thus far this year. Those numbers ranked fifth and sixth, respectively, in the Liberty League, while they were the top marks among freshmen.

Stone notched double-digit kills 18 times in her 29 matches played this season, collecting her first double-double in the Liberty League Semifinal win over Skidmore. Stone was named Liberty League Rookie of the Week four times, in addition to one Liberty League Performer of the Week selection on the year. She was also a four-time ECAC Division III North Player of the Week honoree. Stone is the first Ithaca player since Katie Hause in 2004 to be named AVCA New York Region Rookie of the Year.

Floyd is the key cog in Ithaca's dynamic attack this season. Her play only elevated when IC made a switch to a five-one rotation with the sophomore as the primary setter midway through the season. She posted nine 40-plus assist efforts and topped the 30-assist mark in 16 of her 29 matches so far this season. Floyd collected three double-doubles on the season, already out-pacing her dig total from a season ago, while she has also posted 61 kills on a .345 success rate.

Goldstein appears in the AVCA All-Region release for the third consecutive season. She continues to post big numbers despite the team's diverse attacking options, ranking second on the team and 10th in the Liberty League with 280 kills and a 2.80 kills per set average. She also reached the 30 service ace mark for the third consecutive year, surpassing 100 for her career. Defensively, Goldstein was one of IC's top passing options behind the block. She is second on the team with 270 digs, becoming a member of Ithaca's 1,000 career kill and 1,000 career dig club. She currently ranks ninth on the program's all-time list with 1,385 career kills.

Ithaca is set to face Endicott in the Opening Round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, November 10. Start time for the match is 12:30 in Potsdam, N.Y.
