OSWEGO, N.Y. – The fourth-ranked Ithaca College wrestling team extended its dominance over the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) to fourth consecutive season on Saturday afternoon. The talented Bombers scored 210.5 points as a team, easily out-distancing runner-up No. 19 Brockport (155.5) and third-place SUNY Cortland (139.5) to capture its fourth straight team title at the event.

Ithaca crowned champions at five of the 10 weight-classes on the day, scoring titles at 141-, 149-, 165-, 197-, and 285-pounds. In total, IC racked up 17 place-winners at the event, which again paced the rest of the tournament field by a wide margin.

Ithaca had a pair of entrants in the lightest weight-class, as nationally-ranked Jimmy Kaishian (8th NWCA, 8th d3wrestle.com) and talented sophomore Ferdinand Mase took to the mat. Both wrestlers made fantastic runs through the field, but ultimately had to settle for second and third, respectively, in the competitive bracket.

Kaishian began the day as the two-time defending champion at 125 pounds and he certainly looked the part in breezing to the finals. He opened his day with a 13-2 major decision over RIT's Connor Wilkins, before dispatching SUNY Cortland's Ben Lloyd in a second-period pin-fall (4:39). In the semifinals, the senior co-captain notched his second major decision of the afternoon in an 11-3 win over Oswego State's Jack DelDuca.

Kaishian squared off against Brockport's Jonathan Haas, the second-seeded wrestler in the bracket, in the finals. Unfortunately, the IC senior's bid for a third consecutive title was stymied by the Golden Eagle grappler, as Kaishian was edged in a closely contested 4-3 decision. Haas went on to be named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the tournament.

Mase started the day on the opposite end of the bracket. After securing a bye to the quarterfinal round, the IC sophomore kicked off his tournament with a first-period pin (1:59) of SUNY Cortland's Erick Orellana. However, Mase's path in the winner's bracket was stymied by Haas in a 5-2 decision in the semifinals.

Moving into the consolation semifinals, Mase shut out Dominic DeGraba of SUNY Oneonta in a 4-0 decision. The Ithaca wrestler capped his afternoon with a dominant 17-0 technical fall over the Lakers' DelDuca to win third place.

The Bombers continued to score place winners in the 133-pound division, as both freshman Tito Colom and junior Bryan Israel garnered more team points for the Bombers. Colom finished fourth in the bracket, while Israel notched a sixth-place finish.

Colom's day was almost entirely contested in the wrestle-backs. After dropping his opening bout to Evan Corso of Oswego State in a second-period fall (5:00), the IC freshman went on to win four successive bouts to reach the third-place match. Two of those victories came in dominant technical falls, while he gained revenge over Corso with a 5-3 decision in the consolation semifinals. Colom settled for fourth place when he came up on the wrong end of a 19-9 major decision against Dillon Stowell of Brockport.

Israel's day followed almost opposite path from Colom's. The third-year talent got off to a fast start, scoring a pair of pin-falls over Stowell (4:02) and Dean Raymond of SUNY Oneonta (1:28). Israel had his run derailed in the semifinals, falling to Kevin Knox of SUNY Oneonta in a 12-4 major decision. He faced a rematch with Stowell in the semifinal round of the consolation bracket, where the Brockport grappler flipped the script with a first-period pin (1:54). Israel opted out of the fifth-place bout, taking a medical forfeit to finish sixth.

141 LBS
Ithaca's top weight-class from a point-scoring perspective was at 141 pounds. The Bombers posted three place winners in the bracket, headlined by senior Nick Wahba who won his third consecutive title ECWC title. Additionally, junior Chris Wymer scored a fourth-place finish, while sophomore Joe Rorick placed sixth.

Wahba (8th NWCA, 5th d3wrestle.com) went 3-0 on the day, which included a pair of major decisions. After securing a bye to the quarterfinals, he opened the tournament with a 6-0 decision over Brockport's Donald McCoy. He dispatched another Golden Eagle grappler in the semi's when he downed Sean O'Hagan in an 8-0 shutout. He made it a trifecta against Brockport in the finals, besting Nate Walker in a 13-2 major decision.

Wymer went 4-2 on the day to score fourth place. After opening the day with an 18-0 technical fall over Cortland's Dustin Harris, he was bounced from the winner's bracket by Brockport's Walker. The third-year wrestler won three consecutive wrestle-back bouts, before having to bow out for medical reasons in the third-place match.

Rorick also won his first match of the day, a 13-2 major decision against Richard Dennison of SUNY Oneonta, but like Wymer would also fall to Brockport's Walker. He went on to sustain an injury his consolation semifinal bout against SUNY Oneonta's Anthony Messina, which caused him to pull out of the tournament.

149 LBS
The Bombers had three entrants at 149 pounds and once-again placed a pair of place winners to garner team points. Headlining the action was freshman sensation Sammy Schneider who stretched his record to 22-1 on the season with a weight-class title. Additonally, Ben Brisman posted a third-place finish.

Schneider (3rd NWCA, 4th d3wrestle.com) began his run with a first-period pin-fall (1:05) of Brockport's Jordan Kayes. In the semifinals, he downed Joey Bush of Oswego State in a tight 7-4 decision to earn his place in the finals. In one of the first ranked-on-ranked matchups of the day, Schneider faced Brockport's Sean Peacock (6th NWCA, 5th d3wrestle.com) in the finals. The IC rookie outlasted Peacock in a 3-1 decision to take the crown at 149 pounds.

Brisman began his day with a pair of victories, scoring a third-period pin (5:43) of Oswego State's Nick Swanson. He followed that with a 7-2 decision against SUNY Cortland's Matt Caputo to reach the semifinals. Unfortunately, he was unable to make it an all-Ithaca final, falling to nationally-ranked Peacock in a 9-1 major decision.

Brisman capped his day on a high note, defeating SUNY Oneonta's Nick Heck in an 8-0 major decision, before defeating Caputo for the second time on the day in a 5-2 decision in the third-place bout.

Sophomore Greg Lee also competed in the 149-pound weight class, posting a 2-2 record with a fall and major decision.

157 LBS
Ithaca's string of two place winners per weight class continued at 157 pounds, as Jawan Jones and Demitri D'Orsaneo added points in the wrestle-backs for the Bombers.

Jones was the only Ithaca entrant to win his first winner's bracket bout in this weight class, scoring an 8-6 decision over Daniel Murphy of SUNY Oneonta. However, his run was stalled by nationally-ranked Bobby Dierma (#1 d3wrestle.com) of SUNY Cortland in a 12-4 major decision in the semifinals.

Jones slotted into the consolation semi's and a match with his teammate D'Orsaneo. The sophomore fell to his fellow classmate in an overtime pin-fall, before dropping a 3-1 decision in the fifth-place bout to settle for sixth place.

D'Orsaneo made his run through the consolation bracket, scoring three consecutive victories. He fell in the third-place matchup against Adrian Berry of SUNY Cortland to take fourth in the bracket.

Anthony Fano was the other Ithaca entrant at 157 pounds. Facing perhaps the toughest road of anyone in the bracket, he dropped both of his decisions on the afternoon.

165 LBS
Ithaca added another weight-class champion at 165 pounds, as junior Nick Velez captured his second consecutive ECWC Championship with an impressive 4-0 run on the day.

Velez (5th NWCA, 5th d3wrestle.com) opened the morning session with a first-period pin (1:02) of Oswego State's Jeff Lombardi. He followed that with an 18-1 technical fall over Oneonta's Austin Scheer to reach the semifinals.

Facing another rested grappler in Brockport's Michael Falcon, Velez continued to showcase his endurance with a 12-2 major decision. In the finals, he secured a much-anticipated rematch against Oswego State's Troy Seymour. The pair engaged in a thriller earlier this season at the Ithaca Invite and the sequel did not fail to live up to the billing of the first. IC's man put Seymour on his back for a pin-fall at the buzzer of the second period to capture the title.

Also making his return to the mat at 165 pounds was promising freshman Al Ciccitto. Seeing his first action in nearly two months, Ciccitto posted a 1-2 record on the day.

174 LBS
Junior Jaison White was Ithaca's lone entrant at 174 pounds, but he kept Ithaca's string of place winners at every weight class alive with a third-place showing. The third-year grappler went 4-1 on the day.

White opened the tournament with a 12-7 decision against Brockport's Teddy Fleming. He advanced to the semifinals of the winner's bracket with a hard-fought 2-1 decision against Ryan Marszal of SUNY Oneonta. Unfortunately, his run came to an end in the semi's when Colin Barber of SUNY Cortland won a 3-1 decision.

Advancing into the wrestle-backs, White scored a 4-2 victory over Joe Lupisella of RIT and a 3-1 sudden-victory over Trevor Hoffmier of Oswego State in the third-place bout.

184 LBS
Ithaca secured another third-place honor at 184 pounds, as Jake Ashcraft posted a 4-1 record on the day.

The sophomore standout opened the tournament with a pair of pin-falls over Alex Mongillo of Alfred State (1:52) and Lantze Lange of SUNY Oneonta (1:34). However, his run to a title was stymied by Duely Espinal of SUNY Cortland in the semifinals, as Ashcraft fell in a 12-6 decision.

Dropping to the wrestle-backs, he bested George VanValen of Alfred State in a 6-0 decision. He battled Nick Greenquist of RIT in the third-place bout, besting the Tigers' grappler in a 9-3 sudden victory.

197 LBS
One of the Bombers strongest performances came in the 197-pound bracket where the team once again scored two place winners. Senior Carlos Toribio (4th NWCA, 4th d3wrestle.com) captured his second career ECWC title and first at 197 pounds, while fellow senior Liam Korbul won four straight bouts in the wrestle-backs to finish in third-place.

Toribio's run was perhaps the most dominant of anyone at the tournament. He pinned Kevin Morgans of SUNY Cortland in the first period (0:39), before doubling up with another first-period victory by fall (2:02) over Brandyn Whitacre of Alfred State. Toribio continued his string of pin-falls with another first-period win (1:34) over Brendan Nunziata of SUNY Cortland.

The bout of tournament came in the 197-pound final when Toribio squared off against nationally-ranked Triston Engle (2nd NWCA, 2nd d3wrestle.com) of Brockport. In a back-and-forth battle, Ithaca's man came out on top with a 6-5 decision to capture the Bombers fourth weight class of the day.

Korbul opened the tournament against the nationally-ranked Engle, falling in the first period by pin-fall. However, his day was just getting started, as he rattled off three consecutive victories to reach the wrestle-back finals. He defeated Morgans in a 3-0 decision to take third place.

285 LBS
Ithaca's final entrant was Jake O'Brien in the 285-pound division. The breakout sophomore posted a 4-0 record to capture Ithaca's fifth and final weight-class title.

O'Brien (10th d3wrestle.com) began the day with a first-period fall (2:10) against Alex Mears of Alfred State. In the quarterfinals, he dispated Matt Burge of SUNY Oneonta in another first-period pin-fall (1:37).  The IC sophomore took down Jacob Morris of Brockport in a 5-0 shutout to advance to the finals, before capping his day with an emphatic 15-2 major decision against Zach Gifford of SUNY Cortland.
