ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Returning to action for the first time in nearly six weeks, the Ithaca College men's swimming and diving team as well as the women's track and field team were represented on Monday afternoon when it was announced
Adam Zelehowsky and
Katherine Pitman were named Empire 8 Athletes of the Week in their respective sports.
The IC men's swimming and diving team took the pool for the first time in the New Year when it traveled to Troy, N.Y., for the Henry Kumpf Dual Meet Invitational, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The Bombers posted a 3-1 record at the event to improve to 8-3 in dual meets on the season.
Highlighting the action was senior swimmer Zelehowsky, who took home first place in both the 200- and 100-yard freestyle events to earn 40 points for the squad. He posted a time of 1:45.31 in the 200, while he paced the field with a 47.13 in the 100. The senior also was a part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that took first place in a time of 3:35.22.
Also seeing its first official action in 2017, the women's track and field team had members compete at two events, which included a first-place showing at the Ramapo Season Opener.

Katherine Pitman tied her own school record of 4.15 meters (13 feet, 7.25 meters) in the pole vault to best the field by two-feet, six-inches at the Ramapo Season Opener held at the NYC Armory on January 13.
Pitman currently ranks first in the nation in the pole vault by more than a foot, and is sixth overall across all three NCAA divisions.
The men's swimming and diving team will return to the Athletics & Events Center this coming weekend when it plays host to a dual meet with Alfred University at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 21. The divers will take to the pool for a Dick Comanzo Diving Invitational on Sunday, January 22, at 10:00 a.m.
The women's track and field team will also be in action at the A & E Center this Saturday, when it plays host to the Ithaca Quad beginning at 1:00 p.m.
