2016 SPRING PRESIDENT'S LIST  |  2016 SPRING ACADEMIC TEAMS
ITHACA, N.Y. –
The Empire 8 Athletic Conference announced its President's List for the Spring 2016 semester, and over 850 student-athletes from the league's nine full-time members and nine affiliate institutions were recognized for their contributions on the field and their excellence in the classroom.

To be named to the President's List, a student-athlete must earn a 3.75 grade point average or higher while participating in a conference-sponsored sport. In addition, the student-athlete must display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution. The conference states, "Its commitment to serve the educational needs of its student-athletes is the hallmark of the Empire 8."

The Empire 8 recognized an all-time high 856 student-athletes with the President's List distinction, which eclipsed the previous benchmark of 806 set during the fall of 2015.

Ithaca had 157 student-athletes representing all 27 sports named to the President's List – its highest total since having 153 students honored at the conclusion of the 2015 year.

Additionally, a record number 119 teams, including 18 from Ithaca, were acknowledged as an Empire 8 All-Academic Team for registering a cumulative team grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the spring semester.  Men's and women's cross country, volleyball, women's soccer, women's tennis, gymnastics, men's and women's track and field, women's crew, women's swimming and diving, women's lacrosse, field hockey, men's and women's basketball, softball, sculling, golf and wrestling were each honored by the conference for their academic achievements.

The nine full-time conference members sponsored a total of 4,369 student-athletes who combined for an Empire 8 wide spring semester grade point average of 3.216.  The 3.216 gpa is a new high among Empire 8 members, breaking the old gpa mark of 3.186 set in the fall of 2015.
