Five Bombers Earn E8 Weekly Honors

ITHACA, N.Y. - Five student-athletes from five different Ithaca College teams were named Empire 8 Conference Player/Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon after their performances from April 25-May 1.

Junior Morgan Cadwell, of the women's lacrosse team, registered a career-high seven points on four goals with three assists as the Ithaca College women's lacrosse team claimed the Empire 8 regular season championship and the No. 1 seed for the upcoming postseason tournament with a 12-11 win over St. John Fisher College on April 30. Cadwell scored three goals with one assist in the first half, and added one goal with two assists in the second as IC finished the regular season undefeated in conference play. Cadwell also won four draw controls and scored two free-position goals as the Bombers won for the 11th time in their last 13 games.

On the year, Cadwell is third on the team in goals (35) and points (42). She ranks second in draw controls (36).
 
Ithaca (12-4, 8-0 Empire 8) will host the four-team Empire 8 postseason tournament at Higgins Stadium. Ithaca will face No. 4 Nazareth College (11-5, 6-2) at 11 a.m. May 7, with No. 2 Stevens (10-6, 6-2) playing No. 3 Fisher at 1 p.m. The championship is at 12 p.m. on May 8, with the winner earning the conference's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III tournament.

Junior John Januszkiewicz, from men's lacrosse, scored nine points on seven goals with two assists as the Ithaca College men's lacrosse team concluded the regular season perfect in conference play with wins over Elmira College and Hartwick College.
 
Januszkiewicz scored four goals with two assists in a 22-3 win over Elmira on April 27, and he added three goals in the 16-3 win over Hartwick for the Bombers (16-1, 8-0 Empire 8) on April 30. Januszkiewicz has scored 53 points on 37 goals with 16 assists while playing in only 12 games for the Bombers, who lead the nation in scoring offense (17.53 goals per game) have scored 15 or more goals in 16 of 17 games.
 
Ithaca, which moved up to No. 1 in the national rankings today, has won a school-record 14 games and will host the Empire 8 tournament, May 4 and 7. Ithaca will play No. 4 St. John Fisher College at 4 p.m. on the 4th in the semifinals, with the championship game Saturday afternoon. The winner earns the conference's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III tournament.

Senior Kelly Robichaud of the nationally-ranked Ithaca College softball team collected a pair of multi-hit games last week as the No. 19 Bombers swept Union College in their only doubleheader of the week on April 27. Robichaud combined to go 4-for-6 overall with three homeruns, four runs scored, four RBI and a stolen base as Ithaca improved to 29-7 on the season. In the opening game, the senior catcher clubbed two homeruns before hitting another in the nightcap. Robichaud leads the conference with 10 homers.

The softball team will host the Empire 8 tournament this weekend, May 6-8, at Kostrinsky Field. The top-seeded Bombers will play Alfred University at 12 p.m. on Friday.

Through five events in the decathlon, sophomore Seth Abbott, of the men's track & field team, sits in fourth with 3,065 points at the NYSCTC Decathlon Championships. Abbott was third in the long jump at 5.83 meters (19 feet, 3.5 inches), fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.86 seconds), fourth in the shot put (10.65 meters – 34' 11.25"), fourth in the 400-meter dash (52.55 seconds) and fifth in the high jump (1.78 meters – 5' 10").

Abbott finishes up the decathlon today at St. Lawrence.

Junior Katherine Pitman broke her own school record in the pole vault twice this week. Pitman cleared 3.90 meters (12 feet, 9.5 inches) in the championship portion of the event and placed third overall at the Penn Relays. She was the only NCAA Division III athlete accepted into the championship, and the only two entries to place ahead of her were from Duke University. At Cornell's Big Red Invitational on May 1, she cleared height of 4.10 meters (13' 5.25"), which was almost a foot better than the runner-up from Division I Binghamton University. Pitman currently ranks second in the nation with this performance.

Both track & field programs travel to RPI this weekend, May 6-7, for the NYSCTC Championships.
