RESULTSCEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – After the first day of the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, three of six Ithaca College grapplers will move on to the second day of the tournament with 2-1 records – juniors

Ithaca has earned 18 points so far and sits in a tie for 12th place overall. Wartburg leads the championship with 78 points, followed by Messiah at 48 points. Ahead of the Bombers are Luther (35.5), Augsburg (34.5), Wabash (31.5), Stevens (25), Wisconsin-La Crosse (23.5), Alma (22), Coe (22), Cortland (20), Elmhurst (18.5) and Cornell (18).

Bryan Israel (133) also competed for the Bombers today, but were eliminated from their respective brackets.
Jimmy Kaishian – 125 poundsKaishian got off to a good start in the tournament with an 5-1 decision win over Cole Ferguson from Wisconsin-Platteville in the first round. After a scoreless first period, Kaishian tallied takedowns in the second and third periods, plus riding time to come away with the four-point win.
In the next bout, he would drop a tough 3-2 decision to third-ranked Jakob Stageberg of Concordia-Moorhead, which forced Kaishian to the consolation bracket.
The junior would stay alive in the championship with a clutch takedown in the final seconds of his match with No. 5 Ryan Weinmann of Wisconsin-La Crosse to earn a 6-4 decision win.
He will face Zac Denny of Wisconsin-Whitewater in his first match tomorrow morning.
Nick Velez – 165 poundsVelez faced-off with sixth-ranked Colin Navickas from Stevens in the first round and was dealt a 2-0 loss on a takedown in the second period.
He would respond with a dominating 16-0 technical fall performance in his next bout with Cole Sladek of Concordia-Moorhead to continue on in the championship. Velez scored 14 points in the first period, and ended the match with another takedown just 34 seconds into the second period.
The sophomore fought to a 2-1 decision victory in his next matchup with Ryan Vandall of Central (Iowa). Neither grappler could score a point over the first five points until Velez earned an escape point to start the third. He would secure the win with a riding time point after three periods.
Velez will square off with Jeff Hojnacki from Messiah tomorrow morning.
Carlos Toribio – 184 poundsToribio put together Ithaca's strongest performance on Friday with a pair of major decision wins. He started the tournament off with a 10-1 victory over Sebastian Larson of Augsburg, which included 5:22 of riding time.
He then dropped a 7-4 decision to No. 2 Josh Thomson of Messiah. Toribio was down, 5-1, midway through the second period, but fought back to a 5-4 difference before Thomson added two more points.
In the next bout, Toribio controlled Dillen Decker from Heidelberg, 11-2. After two periods, he held a slim 4-2 edge, but picked up seven points in the third with a takedown, four-point near fall and riding time.
Toribio will grapple Rhode Island College's Brandon Conrad tomorrow.
Bryan Israel – 133 poundsIsrael started off strong with an 8-5 decision win over Jaydon Rice of Hunter in the first round, but was defeated in the next bout by way of pin in 1:46 by No. 3 Ryan O'Boyle on McDaniel.
He dropped his next matchup against Dustin Weinmann of Wisconsin-La Crosse, 5-4. Despite 57 seconds of riding time in his favor, and leading a majority of the match, Israel was taken down late in the third period to be eliminated from competition.
Nick Wahba – 141 poundsWahba suffered an opening round loss to No. 2 Jimmy Nehls of Elmhurst, 7-5, by sudden victory. He led by a 3-2 score after the first period and held 27 seconds of riding time heading to the third stanza. Wahba would force the bout into overtime with an escape but eventually lost the bout on a takedown.
He would redeem himself in his next match against Aaron Wilson of Augsburg with a 7-3 decision. Wahba controlled the match throughout, jumping out to a 4-0 lead after the first period, and built a 7-1 edge midway through the third period.
Wahba's run ended with a 10-7 loss to No. 8 Jeremy Border of Mount Union in the next round. He led, 5-2, late in the second period, but a takedown and near fall by Border at the end of the second changed momentum. Wahba fought back to a 7-7 tie, but an escape and another takedown ended the bout.
Dan Glinko – 285 poundsGlinko kept up with No. 4 Trevor Maresh of Alma in the first round. The bought was scoreless after five minutes, but an escape and takedown from Maresh put Glinko in a 3-0 hole. Shortly after, the match would end by fall at 5:56.
He met Mike Spencer of York (Pa.) in the next round and lost a 6-0 decision.
