ITHACA, N.Y. —Senior
Megan Harrington and freshman
Carolyn Nichols each set season-bests on the floor routine as the Ithaca College gymnastics team knocked off Springfield College Saturday in a matchup of two nationally-ranked squads.
Harrington and Nichols each scored a 9.625 on the floor to tie for first as Ithaca (3-3) outscored Springfield 183.425-182.025 inside a jam-packed Ben Light Gymnasium.
Ithaca swept the season-series from Springfield, also having handed the Pride a 185.925-185.275 defeat at Southern Connecticut State Jan. 16.
The Bombers, ranked eighth in the latest National Collegiate Gymnastics Association's weekly rankings, scored 46.875 points on the floor exercise, had 46.200 on the vault, 45.200 on the balance beam, and 45.150 on the uneven bars to improve to 2-0 in home meets and knock off seventh-ranked Springfield.
Ithaca placed four of its gymnasts in the top six on the floor, as Harrington and Nichols were followed by freshmen
Victoria Gery (9.375) and
Haley Lyons (9.30), who placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
Harrington also won the uneven bars, scoring a season-best 9.450 as the Bombers boasted three of the top four finishers. Sophomore
Mina Shernan (9.20) was third and freshman
Caitlyn McBride (9.150) finished fourth for Ithaca.
Graduate student and co-captain
Valerie Cohen placed second on the vault (9.475), Nichols was third (9.450), and Harrington was fifth (9.425). Harrington equaled her season-best score on the vault while Nichols finished with her second-best effort this year.
Among the beam competitors, sophomore
Eleanor Almeida placed fourth and set a season-best score (9.20), while classmate
Hannah Donnelly (9.125) recorded her second-best score on the beam this year to place fifth.
The Bombers travel to nearby Cornell University for the Cornell Invitational Sunday, Feb. 14.Â
