No. 9 Wrestling Knocks Off No. 18 Wilkes 32-6

ITHACA, N.Y. —In a matchup of two nationally-ranked wrestling squads, Ithaca College traveled to Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Friday night and emerged with a 32-6 win.

Ithaca (15-5), ranked ninth in the country by the National Wrestling Coaches' Association, claimed victories at each of the last seven weight classes to knock off No. 18 Wilkes University.

The Bombers improved to 15-4 this year in dual meets against Division III foes.

Sophomore Nick Velez, ranked sixth in the nation, improved to 28-6 with a 16-0 technical fall victory at 165 pounds. It was Velez's team-leading seventh technical fall win, and he improved to 14-3 in duals.

Freshman Jake Ashcraft, the reigning Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) Rookie of the Week, secured a pin in 3:51 at 197 pounds and ran his record to 28-6 thanks to his team-leading 15th pin.

Trailing 3-0, freshman Ferdinand Mase earned a 2-1 win at 133 to tie the match. Wilkes led 6-3 after a decision win at 141, but the Bombers closed out the dual winning seven straight bouts.

Senior Dan Pak earned a 2-0 shutout win at 149 to start the strong closing run for Ithaca.

The most impressive win came at 184, where in a matchup of top-10 wrestlers, junior Carlos Toribio, ranked ninth, handed fourth-ranked Kyle Diesel a 3-1 setback. Toribio improved to 24-7 (12-3 in duals).

Senior co-captain Eamonn Gaffney held on for a 4-2 win at 157, sophomore Jaison White earned a 9-4 decision win at 174, and senior Dan Glinko pinned his foe in 6:21 to win at 285.

Ithaca hosts No. 6 Cortland at 7 p.m. Wednesday night on Senior Night. The Bombers will honor the following seniors for their dedication to the wrestling program: Gaffney, Glinko, Pak, Henry Beaman, Zack Conner, and Jake Davenport
