YORK, Pa. – The fourth-ranked Ithaca College wrestling team concluded the early tournament-portion of its schedule on Saturday with another outstanding performance at the New Standard Invitational, hosted by York College. The Bombers placed first among 16 other institutions at the event with 149.5 team points, out-distancing runner-up Roger Williams by 14.5 points.

Ithaca had eight wrestlers earn place wins at the event, headlined by freshman
Sammy Schneider and sophomore
Jake Ashcraft. Schneider continued his breakout rookie campaign with an individual championship at 149 pounds, while Ashcraft took home the individual title with a dominant run through the 184-pound bracket.
Nick Velez added a second-place finish at 165 pounds, while
Nick Wahba and
Jake O'Brien earned third-place marks at 141 and 285 pounds, respectively. Rounding out the Bombers' place winners were
Jimmy Kaishian, who got fourth place at 133 pounds,
Jaison White, who took fifth at 174 pounds, and
Anthony Fano who got sixth at 157 pounds.

Ithaca had two grapplers compete at 125 pounds in freshman
Tito Colom and sophomore
Ferdinand Mase.

Colom opened the day with a convincing 24-11 major decision victory over Chris Gural of Roger Williams, but faced tougher resistance in the next two bouts. He fell in a 13-3 major to Chris Doyle of Baldwin Wallace and came up short in his first consolation bout against Phil Torresani of Elizabethtown 7-4.

Mase went 2-2 on the day. Like Colom, he scored a major decision victory in his opening bout, beating Dan Ortega of TCNJ 11-2. However, his winner's bracket run came to an end when Brockport's Jonathan Haas edged the IC sophomore in a 5-3 decision. In his first consolation-round bout he defeated Dylan Nuttall of York in a 4-2 decision, but lost to Rob Jordan of Johnson & Wales in a tight 3-2 bout to end his day.

Kaishian (7
th NWCA, 7
th d3wrestle.com) moved up to 133 pounds instead of his customary spot at 125 pounds. Despite the move up in weight class, the Ithaca senior performed well in posting a 4-2 record en route to a fourth-place finish.

He began the day with a 21-8 major decision over Brandon Tran of John Hopkins. He followed that with another major decision win, 20-6, over Dustin Harris of Cortland. He advanced to the semifinals with a 10-4 triumph over Roger Williams' Sean Wieck. However, Kaishian's bid for a spot in the finals came to an end when he dropped a 2-0 decision to York's Ryan Flynn.

Kaishian rebounded for an 8-2 victory over Brenden Velez of Delaware Valley in the semifinals of the consolation bracket, but had to settle for fourth place when he fell to Jay Albis of Johnson & Wales in the third-place bout.

Ithaca had three wrestlers compete at 141 pounds, headlined by the top seed
Nick Wahba (7
th NWCA, 3
rd d3wrestle.com) who picked up a third-place finish.

Wahba won three straight decisions to begin his afternoon, besting Ferrum's Justin Zimmerman 4-0, Roger Williams' Brayson Haas 9-5, and Matt McAllister of the United States Coast Guard Academy 7-4.

His run in the winner's bracket was stopped by Tim Ambacher of Delaware Valley with a 9-7 decision in the semifinal round. The loss dropped him to the semifinal round of the consolation bracket where he defeated Dylan Van Sickell of Stevens with a first-period fall (2:00). He went on to take third in the bracket with a 6-5 victory over Justin Cochran of Roger Williams.

Joe Rorick and
Adam Moser also competed in the 141-pound bracket. Both wrestlers posted 1-2 records on the day. Rorick picked up his victory over Lucas Escobar of John Hopkins 7-6, while Moser's win came in a 4-2 triumph against Amir Harper of Ferrum.

Ithaca had two competitors at 149 pounds in sophomore
Greg Lee and freshman
Sammy Schneider (7
th NWCA, 4
th d3wrestle.com). Although Lee dropped both of his bouts on the day, Schneider posted a perfect 5-0 record en route to the title in the weight class.

It was a dominant start to the day for Schneider, who sandwiched a 16-5 major decision over Delaware Valley's Robert Duxbury with first-period falls against Khai Do of Elizabethtown (0:53) and Sean Peacock of Brockport (0:51). Schneider met Zach Wilhelm in the semifinal round, besting the Stevens Duck in an 11-5 decision. The Ithaca rookie bested Danny Downes of Roger Williams by the same score in the 149-pound final to win his second title of the tournament season.

The other weight-class to have three Bombers in action was at 157 pounds with
Anthony Fano,
Al Ciccitto, and
Jawan Jones hitting the mat for IC.

Fano had the best day of Ithaca's 157-pound grapplers, posting a 5-3 record en route to a sixth-place finish. He opened the day with a 6-1 victory over Ameer Shakir of Ferrum, but only lasted until the next round in the winner's bracket, as he fell to Ty Herzog of Roger Williams.

Fano had an excellent run in the consolation bracket, besting four wrestlers to enter the consolation semi's. Unfortunately, he was unable to sustain the momentum in dropping two straight, which included the fifth-place bout against Daniel McBrinn of Johnson & Wales.

Jones had the next best record among Ithaca's 157 pounders, posting a 4-2 record on the day. He also started his day with a victory, besting Dan Hedden of TCNJ 7-6; however, he fell to Christian Gosch of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in a tight 3-2 decision.

Like Fano, Jones also had a nice run in the consolation bracket, winning three straight decisions against Dylan Millson of Williams, Erik Beshada of the U.S. Military Academy, and Seamus Bermingham of Baldwin Wallace. Jones had his day ended in the consolation quarters, falling to Richie Burke of Baldwin Wallace in a first period pin.

Ciccitto posted a 2-2 record on the day. He won his first two bouts in first-period falls over Delaware Valley's Sekou Harris (0:49) and Beshada (0:45). However, the IC rookie went on to drop his next two bouts.

Ithaca had two competitors at 165, but
Nik Hansen had his day end prematurely, after suffering an injury in his opening round bout.

Velez (3

nd d3wrestle.com) had an excellent day for IC in making the run all the way to the weight-class finals. He dispatched Adrian Gonzalez of Johnson & Wales in a 9-1 major decision in the first bout of the day. He followed that with a 7-0 decision over Brett Leonard of Roger Williams, before besting Brendan Dent of Cortland in a 12-3 major decision in the semifinals. Unfortunately, he came up just short of the title in the 165-pound final, falling to Alec Golner of Roger Williams in an 8-3 decision.

The Bombers also had two wrestlers go at 174 pounds in
Nick Vogel and
Jaison White. Vogel posted a 2-2 record on the day, while White went 4-2 on the day to take fifth place in the bracket.

Vogel began the day with a hard-fought 8-6 loss to Zach Lugo of SUNY Cortland. He rallied for back-to-back victories in the wrestle-backs, dispatching Richard Mills of Brockport in a 6-3 decision and a second period fall over Ryan Anthony of York (3:34). However, his day was ended when he fell in a 7-2 decision against Nick Moreno of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

White began his day with three straight victories. He bested Mike Gargano of Johnson & Wales in a third-period fall (5:35) in the first round. White dispatched Joe Fiore of the U.S. Military Academy in a 12-3 major decision, before defeating JP Puca of SUNY Cortland in a 7-4 decision to advance to the semifinals. However, he dropped his next two bouts in back-to-back falls to go to the fifth-place bout in the consolation bracket. He won the bout by default, as Joe Sindoni of York withdrew for medical reasons.

Ithaca's other title winner came at 184 pounds, as
Jake Ashcraft had his best day of the season with a 4-0 record.

He began the day with a first-period pin of TCNJ's David Locascio (1:41). He followed that with tight 2-1 and 4-3 decision wins against Colin Barber of SUNY Cortland and Joe Albina of Roger Williams, respectively. Ashcraft met Mike Labell of Johnson & Wales in the final, besting him with a first-period fall (1:45).

The Bombers had only one entrant at 197 pounds, as
Liam Korbul took to the mats for IC. He posted a 2-2 record on the day, which included a victories over Brandon Joest of the U.S. Military Academy and Kevin Morgans of SUNY Cortland.

Rounding out the day's action was
Jake O'Brien at 285 pounds. Ithaca's lone option at the highest division went 5-2 on the day in winning third place in his division.

He began the day with a dominant showing in his first three bouts. He pinned Kevin Dinh of the U.S. Military Academy in the first period (1:29) to get off to a flying start. He scored his next two wins by technical falls with a 16-1 triumph over Colton Rausch of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and a 16-0 triumph over Zach Gifford of SUNY Cortland.

His winner's bracket run came to an end in the semifinals, as he fell to Zach Roseberry of Delaware Valley in a 7-3 decision. However, O'Brien responded to the adversity with two straight wins in the consolation bracket to close out his day. He defeated Gabe Maheny of Baldwin Wallace in a 2-1 decision, before Victor Raigoza of the U.S. Military Academy conceded the win in the third-place bout.

Ithaca returns to action this coming Wednesday, December 7, when the Bombers open up the dual-meet schedule at home against RIT. Action against the Tigers begins at 7:00 p.m. at Ben Light Gymnasium.
