ITHACA, N.Y. – Six members of the Ithaca College men's soccer team have been named All-Conference by the Empire 8 as announced on Wednesday.Â
Alexander Brosnihan,
Sam Boylan,
Zach Jacobsen and
Andrew Coburn each earned a spot on the conference's Second Team while
Scott Halpern and
Justinian Michaels received an Honorable Mention.Â
Brosnihan, who was named All-Conference first the first time in his career, led the Bombers and ranked seventh in the conference with six goals. The sophomore striker notched a career-high 13 points on the season and played in 15 games overall including 12 starts. The Troy native scored two goals in a game on two different occasions this season and notched Ithaca's only goal in the Empire 8 Championship semifinal against Houghton.
Now a two-time Second-Team All-Conference selection, Boylan led the team with 16 points while his six assists tied for the second-highest total of any student-athlete in the conference.  The Waitsfield, Vt. native had a knack for finding open space on the pitch and led the Bombers with 41 shots overall. Boylan had scored three points or more in a game twice this season and had a stretch of four consecutive games with at least one point. The senior concludes his career in an Ithaca uniform having played in 68 games in all including 40 starts.Â
An Honorable Mention last season, Coburn was named Second-Team All-Conference as a senior after anchoring a Bombers' defense, which allowed just 0.71 goals per game in conference play. He appeared in 14 games during the 2016 campaign including 13 starts and accounted for nearly 1,200 minutes played.Â
Over his four-year career at Ithaca, Coburn has helped guide the Bombers to 24 wins and four appearances in the Empire 8 Championship. Under his watch, Ithaca won the 2015 regular season conference championship and earned the right to host the four-team tournament for the first time since the 2008 season.
Coburn was also named the Conference's Sportsman of the Year after displaying the character and integrity that have come to exemplify the Empire 8 Conference and Division III athletics.  Â
Jacobsen, who was named Second-Team All-Conference last season as well, ranked among the conference's best keepers in numerous categories. His .692 goals against average in conference play led the Empire 8 while his .848 save percentage ranked third overall. The Frederick, Md. native posted five shutouts in net and was named the ECAC and Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week twice this season.
Jacobsen started 15 games this season and tallied 58 saves overall. The senior made six saves or more in a game four times this season and stopped a season-high eight shots in a 1-1 draw against Houghton.Â
After spending two years with the team, Jacobsen concludes his time on South Hill having won 14 games in net with 11 clean sheets and 155 career saves. In all, he was named Defensive Player of the Week seven times between 2015 and 2016.
Halpern received an Honorable Mention after scoring a pair of goals to go along with two helpers for six total points during his senior season. The Colts Neck High School graduate's goals came in thrilling fashion as both went down as game-winning goals. Halpern notched the lone score in a 1-0 triumph over Stevens Institute of Technology before breaking a 1-1 tie against St. John Fisher College.Â
Freshman
Justinian Michaels was also named Honorable Mention after starting 16 games in 2016. Michaels played in nearly 1,400 minutes of action and recorded nine shots in all. The Sparkill native was part of a defensive corps that allowed 1.47 goals per game this season with five wins coming by way of shutout.Â
The Bombers concluded the season with a 7-9-1 overall mark and a 5-1-1 record in conference, which earned Ithaca the second seed in the Empire 8 Championship. In all, nine different players scored at least one goal while seven players were on the field for at least 1,100 minutes. Â
