Ithaca Sits Atop Empire 8 Commissioner’s Cup Standings After the Fall

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – After the completion of the fall season in the Empire 8 Conference, Ithaca College leads the Commissioner's Cup standings with 62 of a possible 71 points (.873). The fall standings were released late last week.

Ithaca secure conference titles in women's golf, women's tennis, men's and women's cross country and volleyball. The Bombers also finished second in women's soccer, third in men's soccer, and fourth in football and field hockey to account of the school's total.

Women's golf won the first E8 title for the Bombers this season on October 2 by 55 strokes for their seventh consecutive title. Women's tennis followed with their 12th straight crown on October 15 by a 5-2 score over Stevens. On October 29, the cross country teams ran away with E8 championships – the seven straight for the men and 14th in a row for the women. Volleyball capped off the impressive fall for Ithaca with a four-set win over Stevens on November 6.

Ithaca has won every Commissioner's Cup since 1999.

Commissioner's Cup points are awarded based on each team's finish in the Empire 8 standings at the completion of the season. Points are awarded on a scale dependent upon the number of schools that sponsor the sport (affiliate members are not calculated into the point scale). The conference championship team in each sport receives the highest amount of points, followed by the runner-up. Teams tied for a position are ranked based on tiebreaker scenarios. The actual amount of points earned is then divided by the amount of possible points for each school based on conference-sponsored sports to determine percentage.
