RESULTS
ITHACA, N.Y. —The Ithaca College gymnastics team claimed first place in the vault and the balance beam and tied for first in the floor exercise as the Bombers rallied past The College at Brockport Wednesday afternoon inside the Ben Light Gymnasium in Ithaca's home opener. Â
Ithaca (2-2) trailed entering the floor exercise portion of the competition, the final event, but the Bombers scored 46.700 points to rally and hand the Golden Eagles (2-1) their first loss.
Freshman
Carolyn Nichols posted a 9.60 and edged out senior teammate
Megan Harrington (9.550) to win the floor title.
Graduate student and co-captain
Valerie Cohen also tied for sixth on the floor with a 9.375 to spark the Ithaca comeback.
The Bombers outscored the Golden Eagles 46.90-46.150 on the vault, and 45.40-43.850 on the beam.
The Bombers captured the first three places on the vault, led by Cohen, who won by scoring 9.550 points, 1.450 more than Nichols' score of 9.400.
Nichols and sophomore
Kaylee Pacunas (9.400) tied for second place among the 12 competitors as the Bombers finished with five of the top seven performers on the vault.
Among the beam competitors, sophomore
Kendra Balcerak won with a score of 9.575. Freshman Nina Bustamante-Nadeu finished second (9.350), senior co-captain
Lara Haberle (9.050) was fourth, and sophomore
Hannah Donnelly (8.950) was fifth as the Bombers placed four in the top five.
Sophomore
Danielle Maffuid was Ithaca's best performer on the uneven bars, scoring a 9.20 to place second.
The Bombers travel to Ursinus at 1 p.m. Sunday.Â
