Schaeffer Named CRCA All-American; Six Bombers Earn Academic Recognition

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association announced its all-America selections Thursday evening. Ithaca senior Julie Schaeffer was honored with a CRCA Second Team selection, which marked the 29th Bomber to earn the distinction since 2000.

Schaeffer rowed in the varsity 8 as a junior and senior. She helped the Bombers to a NCAA bid in 2013, and was a NIRC Stewards all-America selection the past two seasons. Schaeffer was recently the recipient of the James K. Harris Memorial Award.

Selection criteria was based on strength of schedule, regular-season record, end-of-season regatta results, nomination rank, coach's comments and a 2,000-meter erg score. The award recognizes the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains at NCAA Division III institutions. The student-athlete must have rowed at least 75 percent of the season's races in the varsity boat.

Additionally, Megan Barry, Lindsay Beatty, Dominique Lessard, Erin McNaughton, Jennie Peterson and Stevie Theoharidis were named CRCA National Scholar Athletes. The CRCA National Scholar-Athlete award is given to student-athletes who have reached sophomore eligibility that competed in an NCAA eligible boat and compiled a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5. Over 100 Bombers have been named CRCA National Scholar-Athletes since 2000.
