Singles Sweep Lifts Ithaca Men's Tennis To 8-1 Win Over Fisher

MENDON, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College men's tennis team swept all six singles matches in an 8-1 win over St. John Fisher on Sunday afternoon at Mendon Racquet Club. Ithaca returns to action Tuesday at Nazareth. Ithaca evened its overall record at 5-5 on the year and stands 3-1 in Empire 8 play.

Ithaca led 2-1 after doubles play when Wes Davis and Joey Hanf won 8-1 at third doubles and the duo of Chris Hayes and Griffin Reid won 8-3 at second doubles.

In singles play, Ithaca won five of the six matches in straight sets. Hayes was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at fourth singles and was followed off court in order by Davis (6-4, 6-0) at third singles and Reid (6-4, 6-1) at second singles to give Ithaca the requisite five points for the dual-match victory. First-singles player Zach Passman dropped his opening set 6-1, but won the next two by 6-1 and 6-2 scores to get the win.
