Baseball Catcher Cooper Belyea Earns Empire 8 Weekly Honor

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Ithaca College baseball junior catcher Cooper Belyea has been named Empire 8 Player of the Week for the week ending April 20, 2014. It is the first conference honor for Belyea and the second consecutive week that the honor has been awarded to an Ithaca player following Luke Stark's selection last week. Belyea led Ithaca to three victories in a four-game series at nationally-ranked St. John Fisher over the weekend.

Over five games last week, including a mid-week game at Rochester and the four-game series at 13th-ranked Fisher, Belyea batted .538 with seven hits in 13 at bats. He had two doubles, scored four times and drove in three runs. He also had two stolen bases and played five games of error-free baseball behind the plate. For the season, Belyea has appeared in 27 of Ithaca's 29 games and has made 22 starts.

Ithaca will host No. 11 Cortland on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Freeman Field, travel to Oswego for a single game Wednesday, and then has road doubleheaders scheduled at New Paltz on Saturday and at No. 24 York (Pa.) on Sunday.
