Ithaca Men's T&F Team Claims Eighth Straight Empire 8 Outdoor Crown

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's track & field team won its 10th Empire 8 Outdoor Track & Field Championship Saturday at St. John Fisher's Polisseni Track and Field Complex. The Bombers, who secured their eighth straight title, have won 10 of the 11 crowns contested. Ithaca outscored the second-place team by 72 points with a total of 196 points.
 
The Bombers hit five ECAC qualifiers during the meet and earned 12 all-conference honors by virtue of five first- and seven second-place finishes.
 
Junior Rashaad Barrett won the 100-meter dash in an ECAC-qualifying 11.01. He also ran second in the 200 with a time of 22.63. Barrett teamed with sophomore Aaron Matthias and juniors Kevin Davis and Tyler Curtis to claim the 4x100 relay title in an ECAC-qualifying 43.05.
 
Ithaca claimed gold and silver in the 5,000 and the pole vault. Sophomore Sawyer Hitchcock won the 5K in 15:15.86, while freshman Sean Phillips followed in 15:28.52. Ithaca took the top four places in the vault. Seniors Jarrod Monacelli and Steven Episcopo finished first and second with clears of 4.25 and 4.10 meters, respectively.
 
Sophomore De'Marquis Graves placed second in both the long jump and the triple jump, hitting the ECAC qualifier in the latter. Graves had a mark of 13.55 meters in the triple and a leap of 6.61 meters in the long.
 
Sophomore Stephen Gomez won the 3,000 steeplechase in 9:55.48.  
 
Senior Christian Stremmel placed second in the hammer throw with a toss of 42.16 meters and junior Mason Mann crossed the finish line of the 800 in 1:59.00 to place second.
 
Sophomore Andrew Brandt and senior Brendan Wilkins both met the ECAC qualifier in the high jump with clears of 1.93 meters. Brandt placed third and Wilkins fifth.
 
The Bombers return to action April 22 hosting the Ithaca Tuesday meet.
