Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. – The 16th-ranked Ithaca College women's lacrosse team (9-4, 4-0 Empire 8) tallied a 13-6 victory at Stevens Institute of Technology (6-7, 4-1 Empire 8) Friday afternoon. The Bombers are on an eight-game winning streak and have won 19 consecutive Empire 8 contests. Ithaca last lost a regular-season E8 game on April 22, 2011 to Nazareth. With the win, Ithaca secured sole possession of first place in the league standings.
The Bombers jumped out to a commanding 6-0 lead. Stevens netted their first with one minute lingering in the first half for a 6-1 Bomber gap at intermission. The Ducks tallied first in the second half to pull within four, but Ithaca posted three scores in six minutes to power to a 9-2 lead. Scoring four of the next five goals, Stevens snuck within 10-6, but Ithaca put away three additional scores for the 13-6 victory.
Senior
Becky Guzzo led the game with a four-point performance with one score and three assists. Sophomores
Ally Runyon and
Riley Marion and junior
Molly Fischer, each recorded hat tricks. Juniors
Natalie Lang and
Delaney Gilson added two and one, respectively. Freshman
Morgan Cadwell dished out one assist. Runyon led the team with three draws, while Lang and senior
Anya Eckhardt won two apiece. The trio collected three ground balls each.
Defensively, seven Bombers caused one turnover each, while freshman
Emily Ross secured the win in goal. She made seven saves.
The Bombers held a 31-21 advantage in shots and had 21 ground balls to Stevens' 16. The Ducks won 11 of 21 draws.
Ithaca returns to action Saturday, April 19 traveling to Hartwick for a noon game. With a win, Ithaca will clinch the top seed in, and hosting rights for, the in the Empire 8 Championship Tournament.
