Ithaca Women's Lacrosse Suffers Second Straight Setback to Top-10 Team

YORK, Pa. – The 20th-ranked Ithaca College women's lacrosse team dropped its second straight loss to a top-10 team Saturday. The Bombers (0-2) suffered a 14-12 setback to ninth-ranked York (Pa.) (3-1) at Kinsley Field.

The game was tied on seven occasions, including a 5-5 stalemate at the half, after going goal-for-goal during the first 30 minutes of play. Ithaca crept ahead 7-5 in the second, but the Spartans answered to knot action. The contest was last deadlocked at 8-all before a 4-1 run secured York and infinite lead. The Spartans secured a four-goal gap at 5:44. Ithaca responded with a pair of its own, but the clock expired in York's favor, 14-12.

Sophomore Ally Runyon had a game-best four goals, while sophomore Riley Marion added a hat trick and an assist for four points against the Spartans. Junior Delaney Gilson tallied a pair of scores and classmates Niki Standera, Natalie Lang and Emily Peters netted one goal each. Senior Becky Guzzo dished out a contest-best two assists.

Rookie Emily Ross suffered the loss between the pipes. Making eight stops in 56 minutes of play, Ross scooped up five ground balls. Junior Laura Scalzi forced four turnovers and senior Jenna Marchinetti three.

York held a 28-25 edge in shots and bettered the Bombers 17-11 in draw controls. Ithaca, who went 3-for-4 in free position shots, collected 17 ground balls to the Spartans' 15.

The Bombers are headed south to Clermont, Fla. for spring break training and two games. Ithaca will play Connecticut College on March 11 at 11 a.m. and nationally-ranked Gettysburg at 3 p.m. on March 13.
