ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College men's tennis team began its Empire 8 season with an 8-1 defeat at the hands of Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday morning at the Reis Tennis Center at Cornell University. Stevens swept the doubles matches and went on to the win. Ithaca stands at 2-5 overall this season and is 0-1 in the conference. Stevens is 4-7 overall with a 1-0 Empire 8 mark.

The Ithaca victory came at sixth singles, where Wes Davis was a convincing winner by a 6-0, 6-2 score. It was the team-leading eighth singles victory of the season for Davis.

Other close matches came at the fourth and fifth singles positions. At the four spot, David Andersen rallied from one set down to win the second set 6-4, before dropping the super-breaker. Justin Levine rallied back in a close second set to send the set to tiebreak, including a marathon hold of serve at 4-5, before falling in the tiebreak.

Ithaca is back in action Wednesday at 4 p.m. with a home match against Utica. Please note a change in date on that contest. Also, the Saturday, April 5 home dual against Hartwick will start at noon. | 2013-14 Schedule
