Each regional meet was given a fixed number of qualifiers (for the current meet, seven women and five men qualified). This number was determined by the number of divers eligible to compete in a given region. Regardless of ratios, no region had less than two male qualifiers and two female qualifiers.
For the Rochester Institute of Technology Regional, seven women's divers advanced to the national championship meet from a field of 24 participants and five men's divers advanced from a field of 15 participants. The qualifiers to the national championships were assigned by alternating between the highest finisher on day one and the highest finisher on day two, assuring equal consideration is given to both boards.
