Bombers Challenge, But Fall To St. John Fisher, 81-71

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's basketball team (6-16, 1-10 E8) lost to St. John Fisher (14-9, 7-5 E8) Saturday afternoon, falling to the Cardinals by a score of 81-71 at Ben Light Gymnasium.

Junior Max Masucci set a career high with 20 points, adding two rebounds and an assist in the loss. Senior Tom Sweeney contributed 12 points to go along with a block and five rebounds. Junior Keefe Gitto paced the Bombers with six rebounds to go along with 11 points.

The Bombers hit 27-of-57 shots in the contest, connecting on 47.4 percent of their attempts. Ithaca shot an impressive 60 percent from three-point range, going 9-for-15 from beyond the arc. The Bombers also shot 80 percent from the free throw line, going 8-for-10 from the charity stripe.

The Bombers jumped out to an early lead on the Cardinals, taking a three-point lead just under two and a half minutes into the first half. Fisher responded with a small run, taking its first lead of the game with 16:47 to play in the frame.

The Cardinals' lead grew, reaching 12 points over the next 10 minutes. Ithaca clawed back in the dying minutes of the opening frame, cutting the Fisher lead to 37-36 at the break.

Both teams exchanged baskets before Ithaca regained the lead on a three ball from sophomore Brad Johanson with 11:22 to play in the second half. After another lead exchange and a tie, the Bombers took their final lead on a three from freshman Joe Masino to put the score at 62-61.

Despite the strong play from Ithaca for the majority of the half, Fisher regained the lead for the final time with just under nine minutes to play. The Bombers challenged down the stretch, but the Cardinals pulled away for the 81-71 victory.

Ithaca is back in action on Feb. 14, as the Bombers take on Elmira at Ben Light Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
