Women's Swimming & Diving Breaks Back Into National Poll

SOMERS, Wisc. The Ithaca College women's swimming and diving team broke back into the CollegeSwimming.com national poll on Tuesday, marking their highest spot in the poll since ranking 14th overall in mid-November. The Bombers are now ranked 16th overall in the poll, and are the highest ranked member of the Empire 8.

The Bombers dominated Union this past Saturday afternoon by a score of 193-105 at the A&E Center Aquatics Pavilion. The Bombers finished first in 11-of-16 events, including relay wins in the 400-yard medley and the 200-yard freestyle.

Nickie Griesemer swept both diving events for the Bombers, earning a first place finish in the 1-meter (311.40) and the 3-meter dive (303.80). Griesemer's total in the 1-meter set a new program record, while her score in the 3-meter broke her own mark of 295.35 that was set last week.

The ranking accounts for teams' top performances over the preceding month and is the only objective ranking of swimming for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, NAIA and NJCAA. This year's rankings utilize a new point system based on a 1,100 point scale. The new scale uses NCAA time standards and a percentile ranking of all college times over the past four years.

Ithaca is back in action on Feb. 15, as the Bombers host the Ithaca Invitational.
