Women's Swimming & Diving Ranked 22nd In National Poll

SOMERS, Wisc. -- The Ithaca College women's swimming and diving team moved up the CollegeSwimming.com national poll on Tuesday. The Bombers pushed up the poll to No. 22 after ranking 28th in the previous release. The Bombers are the second highest ranked member of the Empire 8, trailing only Stevens (19).

Ithaca captured its fifth Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association championship in six seasons, and its 14th Empire 8 championship following the final day of competition at the Athletics & Events Center Aquatics Pavilion last week. The Bombers finished with 1,443 points, beating out Stevens Institute of Technology's total of 1,264 points.

Ithaca swept the women's awards, as freshman Grace Ayer was named Swimmer of the Meet and classmate Nickie Griesemer was named Diver of the Meet. Head coach Paula Miller earned Coach of the Year honors and diving coach Mike Wantuck was named Diving Coach of the Year.

The ranking accounts for teams' top performances over the preceding month and is the only objective ranking of swimming for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, NAIA and NJCAA. This year's rankings utilize a new point system based on a 1,100 point scale. The new scale uses NCAA time standards and a percentile ranking of all college times over the past four years.
