ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College wrestling team took part in its first dual meet of the season on Saturday at the Northeast Duals at Oneonta. The Bombers defeated Rhode Island College 23-9. Ithaca is ranked eighth in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Poll.
Ithaca started with two wins as
Jimmy Kaishian won by major decision with a 12-2 victory at 125 pounds.
Henry Beaman followed with a 5-4 decision victory at 133. After Rhode Island College won at 141, Ithaca won the next four bouts.
Eamonn Gaffney won 3-2 at 149,
Kevin Collins won 6-2 at 157,
Nick Velez won 12-5 at 165, and
Jaison White won 7-1 at 174. Those four victories lifted Ithaca's dual lead to 20-3. Rhode Island College won at 184 and 285, sandwiched around an Ithaca decision win at 197 by
Greg DuVall.
Ithaca returns to action next weekend at the New York State Championships, hosted by Cornell.
