HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Ithaca College men's basketball team (3-7, 0-2 E8) lost to Stevens Institute of Technology (6-3 2-0 E8) Saturday afternoon, falling to the Ducks by a score of 75-50 at Canavan Arena.
Sophomore
Andrew Brandt paced the Bombers with a career-high nine points in his first collegiate start, adding a career-best 18 rebounds and a blocked shot. Brandt's rebound total marked an individual season high for the Bombers, and the most since Chris Cruz-Rivas pulled down 18 boards in a 91-69 win over Hartwick on Feb. 18, 2011.
Senior
Frank Mitchell chipped in seven points, adding a block, an assist and six rebounds. Sophomore
Sam Bevan also added seven points and led Ithaca with two assists.
The Bombers shot 30.8 percent from the floor, connecting on 16-of-52 shots, including a mark of 5-of-20 from beyond the arc. Ithaca shot 48.1 percent from the free throw line, going 13-of-27 from the charity stripe.
The Ducks jumped out to an early lead on the Bombers, going up 7-0 in the first two minutes of play. Stevens carried that momentum through the remainder of the opening half, taking a 49-29 lead to the locker room at halftime.
The Bombers opened the second half on a 6-1 run, pulling to within 15 points of the Ducks with 15:35 remaining in the second half. However, Stevens never relinquished the lead in the second half, eventually defeating the Bombers by a score of 75-50.
Ithaca is back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 7 in a home contest with Houghton. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
