Bombers Lose, 4-2, In Night Contest With Rensselaer

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer team (0-2) dropped a close contest to Rensselaer (2-1) Wednesday night, falling to the Engineers by a score of 4-2 at Higgins Stadium. Junior Max Bjork and freshman Adam Goldstein scored for the Bombers while sophomore goalkeeper Kenny Chapman made four saves on eight shots.

Rensselaer scored the only goal in the first half of play, beating Chapman in the 24th minute to take a 1-0 lead into the break.

Ithaca responded with a goal 2:37 into the second half. Freshman Cobi Byrne sent a shot towards the Engineer net on a corner kick, finding Bjork for the header in front. Bjork's goal marked the first of his collegiate career and evened the contest at 1-1.

Rensselaer answered with three-straight goals in a 10-minute span, scoring in the 51st, 57th and 60th minutes to push the Engineers lead to 4-1.

The Bombers battled back with a goal at 80:22. Freshman Sean Forward sent a shot towards the Rensselaer net from the near side, finding Goldstein for the re-direction in front. Goldstein's tally also marked the first of his career, while Forward's assist marked his first collegiate point.

The Bombers were unable to score again in the final 10 minutes of play, giving Rensselaer the 4-2 victory.

Ithaca is back in action on Sept. 7 in a road contest at Muhlenberg.
