Bombers Fall To Stevens, 3-2

Box Score
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College field hockey team (6-2, 1-1 E8) lost to Stevens Institute of Technology (6-2, 3-0 E8) Saturday afternoon, falling to the Ducks by a score of 3-2 at Higgins Stadium. Junior Danielle Coiro and freshman Colleen Keegan-Twombly scored for the Bombers. Freshman Katie Lass (6-2) set a career high with 28 saves in the contest. The Bombers also recorded two defensive saves.

Stevens recorded the first goal, scoring on a penalty stroke for a 1-0 lead just under 10 minutes into the game. The Ducks scored again at 28:50 to take a commanding 2-0 lead.

Just 27 seconds later, Ithaca responded with its first goal of the contest to cut the lead to 2-1. Immediately following the Ducks' goal, Coiro fed a pass to a streaking Keegan-Twombly on the near side. Keegan-Twombly fired a shot from just inside the circle, beating the Stevens' goaltender for her first career goal.

Stevens regained its two-score lead with a tally in the 45th minute, netting an unassisted goal to put the score at 3-1.

The Bombers battled back in the 56th minute, as Coiro deflected home a shot from senior Lindsay Flanagan on a 2-on-1 break. Despite the late surge and several incredible saves from Lass, the Bombers were unable to even the contest, giving Stevens the 3-2 victory.

Ithaca is back in action on Oct. 2 in a road contest with Utica. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
