ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College field hockey team (2-0) scored just over three minutes into overtime to post a 3-2 win over visiting Brockport (0-1) on Saturday afternoon at Higgins Stadium. The visiting Golden Eagles tied the game in the final minute of the second half, but
Lauren Delia scored on a rebound for the Bombers in overtime to give Ithaca the win.
Ithaca started strong and scored the game's opening goal in the sixth minute off of a penalty corner.
Lindsay Flanagan started the play and passed the corner to the top of the circle, where
Olivia Salindong collected the pass and shot toward the cage. Flanagan was at the left post and tipped in the goal. It was her third goal of the season. The Bombers maintained their 1-0 lead throughout the first half, and held a 4-2 advantage in shots through the first 35 minutes.
Brockport evened the score in the second half, but Ithaca responded just two minutes later to take a 2-1 lead.
Kelly Consadine scored her first career goal with a deflection of a shot by
Cassie Schuttrumpf off another penalty corner.
The Golden Eagles scored the game-tying goal with 33 seconds remaining in the second half.
Brockport held the early territorial advantage in overtime, forced two saves from Ithaca goalkeeper
Katie Lass and a defensive save by Salindong, and earned a penalty corner. Ithaca regained possession and it led to a three-on-zero attack against the Brockport goalkeeper. Flanagan took an initial shot that was saved, and Delia collected the rebound and shot into the empty cage for the winning goal. It was Delia's third goal of the season.
Lass made three saves for the Bombers. Ithaca held a 13-8 advantage in shots and a 7-6 advantage in corners for the game. Ithaca returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 4 at home against Oswego at 4 p.m.
