INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Ithaca College women's crew varsity 8 finished seventh overall among varsity 8s at the 2013 NCAA Division III Rowing Championships held at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis on Friday and Saturday.
In Ithaca's heat race, the Bombers placed fourth among four boats with a time of 7:35.86, bettered by Bates, William Smith and Washington College. In the varsity 8 repechage, the Bombers were third of four boats with a time of 7:51.60, trailing Wellesley and Washington College and placing ahead of Puget Sound. In the varsity 8 petite final, Ithaca raced Puget Sound to determine places seven and eight and the Bombers finished ahead of Puget Sound by a 22-second margin to claim seventh overall.
Williams College won the team championship for the eighth consecutive year. Race conditions and schedule were affected throughout the weekend by inclement weather.
Ithaca has qualified 10 times for the NCAA's Division III championship event, and this is the first time that an Ithaca boat was selected as an at-large selection. Ithaca College won NCAA titles in 2004 and 2005. The Bombers made their 14th overall appearance in the NCAA Rowing Championship, which was first contested in 1997.
