Men's Tennis Claims All-Empire 8 Honors

ITHACA, N.Y. - Four members of the Ithaca College men's tennis team earned a total of seven all-conference honors as the Empire 8 announced its 2013 awards for men's tennis. Freshman Chris Hayes earned first-team honors in both singles and doubles, and was joined in the first team for doubles by David Andersen. Griffin Reid and Justin Levine picked up second-team honors in both singles and doubles. The Bombers finished second in the Empire 8 in the regular season with a 6-1 conference record and advanced to the finals of the league tournament. Ithaca was 8-12 overall.

Hayes earned a pair of all-conference honors in his freshman year. He was 6-1 in singles play within conference matches and 11-7 overall in singles play. He was also 6-1 in conference dual matches in doubles play and 8-14 overall in doubles.

Andersen was an all-conference doubles player for the second straight year, after being named to the second team as a sophomore in 2012. Andersen was also the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year as a freshman. In the 2012-13 season, Andersen posted an overall doubles record of 8-13 and was 5-1 in E8 conference doubles matches.

Reid was 6-1 in Empire 8 doubles play and 4-3 in conference singles matches in earning second-team honors in both categories. These are the third and fourth career all-conference honors for Reid, who was a first-team singles player as a sophomore and earned honorable mention in singles as a freshman. Overall, Reid went 6-15 in singles matches and 8-9 in doubles play.

Levine earned second-team singles honors for the second straight year and picked up his first All-Empire 8 doubles recognition on the second team. He was 13-11 overall in doubles, which led Ithaca in victories and six of those doubles wins came in conference matches. In singles play, Levine went 8-12 overall with a 4-2 mark in the Empire 8.

Additionally, senior Kyle Riether was Ithaca's representative on the Empire 8 Sportsman of the Year Team, which recognizes one player from each team for competing with honor and integrity.
