ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College women's crew has received an invitation to the NCAA Division III Rowing Championship, scheduled for May 31 and June 1 at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, Indiana, with the Indiana Sports Corporation and Notre Dame serving as hosts. The NCAA Division III Women's Rowing Committee has selected the Bombers as an at-large eight that will compete in the championship regatta against six other teams and one other at-large selection.
THE NCAA WOMEN'S ROWING CHAMPIONSHIP: This marks the 12th time a Division III Championship is being sponsored. Previously the championship was an all-division event with a certain number of spots allocated for Division II and Division III schools. The championship is comprised of six teams (Washington College, Williams, Bates, Trinity (Conn.), Wellesley and William Smith) that each field two boats of eight rowers and a coxswain. Two other varsity 8 boats (Ithaca and Puget Sound) were chosen as at-large selections.
ITHACA IN THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS: Ithaca has qualified 10 times for the NCAA's Division III championship event, and this is the first time that an Ithaca boat was selected as an at-large selection. Ithaca College won NCAA titles in 2004 and 2005. The Bombers are making their 14th overall appearance in the NCAA Rowing Championship, which was first contested in 1997.
