Field Hockey Loses, 5-1, In Non-Conference Action Against Geneseo

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College field hockey team (10-7) lost the final game of the regular season Tuesday evening, falling to the Geneseo Knights (13-6) by a score of 5-1 at Higgins Stadium. Senior Katie Kennedy scored in the contest, giving her a goal in three-straight games. Freshman Katie Lass stopped 11-of-16 shots in the loss.

Geneseo scored the first goal of the game, converting on a penalty stroke just under seven minutes into the first half to take a 1-0 lead.

The Bombers responded in the 18th minute, evening the contest at 1-1. Junior Natalie Lynch started the play with a pass across the front of the goal, eventually finding Kennedy on the far post. Kennedy knocked home her 10th goal of the season, tying junior Danielle Coiro for the team lead.

The Bombers didn't get any closer, as the Knights scored four-straight goals in the second half. Geneseo's offensive flurry started with a goal in the 40th minute and was followed with three more goals in a 20-minute span.

Ithaca was unable to score again in the contest, giving the Knights a 5-1 victory. The Bombers now focus their attention on Empire 8 Playoffs. Ithaca faces off against Utica in the first round of the conference tournament at host site Stevens Institute of Technology. The match, Ithaca's first playoff game in four seasons, is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m.
