ITHACA, N.Y. -- Ithaca College football kick returner and defensive back
Sam Carney was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week as a kick-return specialist following Ithaca's 23-0 win over Frostburg State. Carney is the sixth different Ithaca player to earn one of the D3football.com weekly awards this season. The Team of the Week recognizes the best players or groups at each position from across NCAA Division III football.
Carney made one of the biggest plays of the game with a 67-yard punt return touchdown just before halftime to give Ithaca a 13-0 lead in the Bombers' eventual 23-0 win. It was the second punt-return touchdown of the season by an Ithaca player this season. Carney also had one tackle and an interception in Ithaca's shutout defensive effort, the first shutout of an opponent since the opening game of the 2012 season.
Ithaca, ranked 24th nationally by D3football.com, travels to Salisbury for a noon game on Saturday. The Bombers will clinch at least a share of the Empire 8 Championship with a victory in that game.
