ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College field hockey team (10-6, 4-3 E8) defeated Hartwick (5-13, 1-6 E8) Saturday afternoon, beating the Hawks by a score of 3-1 at Higgins Stadium. The win secures a spot in the Empire 8 Playoffs for the Bombers, marking their first return to the conference tournament since 2009. Senior
Katie Kennedy led the Bombers with two goals, while sophomore
Olivia Salindong added one score in the victory.

Katie Lass made one save on two shots, pushing her overall record to 10-6 on the year.
After a scoreless 35 minutes of play, Hartwick struck first on a penalty corner at the end of the opening half. The Hawks took a 1-0 lead into halftime, despite being outshot, 14-3, in the first frame.
Ithaca responded in force in the second half. Just under four minutes into the final period, junior
Danielle Coiro sent a pass across the slot after sustained pressure in the offensive zone. Kennedy collected the pass and beat the Hartwick goalkeeper for her first score of the day.
Ithaca struck again in the 57th minute, giving the Bombers their first lead of the day. Senior
Lindsay Flanagan sent a pass to the top of the slot on a penalty corner, finding Salindong all alone for a shot. Salindong's shot made its way through a crowd and into the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season.
With just over 12 minutes to play in the game, Kennedy netted her second of the day on a fantastic individual effort in front after an offensive rush. Kennedy's goal marked her ninth score of the season and gave the Bombers the 3-1 advantage.
Hartwick was unable to score again, giving the Bombers their 10th win of the season. The victory wrapped up regular season conference play for Ithaca, and marked one of the final home games for seniors Flanagan, Kennedy,
Andrea Pace and
Emily Lash.
The Bombers' final game of the regular season takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 5. The match against Geneseo is set to start at 4 p.m. at Higgins Stadium.
