Bombers Hit The Road For NCAA Third Round

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The No. 7 Ithaca College women's soccer team (18-2-0) will head to Geneva, N.Y. this weekend for the third round of the NCAA Tournament. William Smith (19-1-0), the only team ranked higher than Ithaca in the NCAA East Region, will host the Sweet 16. Ithaca will play Messiah (20-2-1) on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 1:30 p.m. in the second Sectional Semifinal. Host William Smith will play The College Of New Jersey (18-2-2) in the first match of the day, facing off at 11 a.m. The two winners advance to Sunday's 1 p.m. final with a berth in the final four in San Antonio at stake.

How Ithaca Got Here
The Bombers 
received the Empire 8's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after defeating Nazareth on Nov. 10, dropping the Golden Flyers by a score of 3-1 at Carp Wood Field to win the Empire 8 Championship. Seniors Jackie Rodabaugh (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain)Ellyn Grant-Keane (Lansing, N.Y./Lansing) and freshman Holly Niemiec (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) all scored for the Bombers, while sophomore goalkeeper Beth Coppolecchia (Katonah, N.Y./Somers) made four saves on five Golden Flyer shots. 

Ithaca defeated Penn State-Behrend (15-6-1) this past Saturday afternoon, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a 3-0 victory over the Lions. Sophomore Kelsey King (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) led the way with two goals, while freshman Taylor Baranowsky (Moorestown, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep)chipped in one score in the victory. Coppolecchia  picked up the shutout win, marking her eighth solo shutout of 2013. 

The Bombers defeated No. 22 Rowan (17-4-0) in the second round of the NCAA Tournament this past Sunday, dropping the Profs by a score of 1-0 at Carp Wood Field. Senior Anna Gray (Bethlehem, N.Y./Delmar) scored the lone goal for the Bombers, while Coppolecchia stopped all six shots she faced to earn her second-straight shutout.
