SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Ithaca College men's basketball team (1-1) picked up its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Swarthmore by a score of 60-51 in the final game of the Equinox Classic.
Senior
Frank Mitchell led all Bombers with 23 points, while freshman
Leonard Davis added 13 points in just his second career game. Mitchell completed the double-double with 10 rebounds, adding three steals and one block on the day. Sophomore
Sam Bevan also contributed with 11 points, three assists, one block and one steal.
The Bombers shot 18-of-36 from the field, including two three pointers on 11 attempts. Ithaca led in points off turnovers, earning 16 compared to Swarthmore's 10. The Bombers also secured more points in the paint, scoring 24 to Swarthmore's 18.
The game went back-and-forth in the opening frame, as neither team was able to secure more than a five point lead for the majority of the half. Ithaca did pull ahead by six points in the closing seconds, taking advantage of a steal by Bevan and three-straight points from Davis to close the half.
The Bombers never relinquished their lead in the final frame, as strong defense and consistent scoring secured Ithaca's 60-51 win.
The Bombers are back in action on Nov. 19 in a road contest against Oswego. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
