Men's Basketball Falls To Haverford In Season Opener, 77-67

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Ithaca College men's basketball team (0-1) lost to Haverford (1-0) Friday night, falling to the Fords by a score of 77-67 in the opening game of the season at the Equinox Classic.

Senior Tom Sweeney led all Bombers with 17 points, adding seven rebounds, two assists and a block. Senior Chris Jordan chipped in with 14 points and led Ithaca with four assists and four steals. Senior Frank Mitchell pulled down six rebounds and contributed eight points on the night.

The Bombers shot 42 percent from the floor in the contest, hitting 25 of their 59 attempts. Ithaca also recorded seven three pointers, going 7-of-19 from beyond the arc.

The Bombers jumped out to an early advantage in the opening half, taking a nine point lead in the first seven minutes of play. The Fords stormed back however, and ended the first half with a one point advantage over the visiting Bombers.

The Fords opened the second half with six-straight points, leading by as many as 16 points at the midway point of the final frame. With under a minute remaining, junior Max Masucci nailed a three ball after a key defensive stop, cutting Haverford's lead to just seven points.

Despite the late second-half rally, the Bombers were unable to get any closer, as Haverford pulled out the 77-67 victory.

Ithaca is right back in action on Saturday, Nov. 16, taking on Swarthmore in the second game of the Equinox Classic. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
