ITHACA, N.Y. -- Ithaca College women's tennis player
Allison Young earned Empire 8 Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors following the Bombers' championship-winning weekend on the court. Young was named as the tournament's Most Outstanding Player at the Empire 8 Women's Tennis Championships. The Bombers won their ninth-straight conference title and automatic qualification to the 2014 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships in May.
Young went 3-0 on the weekend as Ithaca defeated Stevens and Nazareth. In the semifinal match against Stevens, Young teamed with Melissa Nunez to earn an important 8-6 win at first doubles over the Stevens duo of Lisa Tessitore and Jessica Bourque, who won the ITA Northeast Region doubles championship in September and placed seventh at the ITA Small College Championships. In Sunday's championship match, Young partnered with
Haley Kusak to post an 8-4 win at first doubles and then went on to win 6-0, 6-1 at second singles as the Bombers defeated Nazareth 5-0.
Young finished the fall season with a 5-0 record in singles matches and 8-4 record in doubles. She has 29 career singles wins and 39 career doubles wins.
