Four Bombers Named To All-Region Baseball Team

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Four members of the Ithaca College baseball team have been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association New York Region all-star team. Senior pitcher Sazi Guthrie (Belfast Area/Belfast, Maine) was a first-team selection; sophomore pitcher Kyle Sottung (Pulaski/Pulaski) was a second-team selection and senior pitcher Ian Locke (Columbia/Nassau) and senior outfielder Steve Nardozzi (Victor/Victor) received third-team honors.
Guthrie, a first-team Empire 8 all-star this spring, posted a 6-6 record with a 3.04 ERA, striking out 68 batters in 77 innings. He finished his career with a record of 18-12 and 180 strikeouts. He ranks fifth on Ithaca's career strikeout list and ninth in career innings pitched (202.0).
Sottung led Ithaca's pitchers with seven wins and a 2.55 ERA. He struck out 55 batters and raised his career mark to 12-4. He was an all-tournament pick at the NCAA New York Region playoffs.
Locke, another first-team Empire 8 all-star, went 6-3 this year with a 2.87 ERA. He struck out 42 batters to raise his career total to a school-record 193. With 25 career wins, he ranks third in Ithaca's record book. Locke was selected to the NCAA New York Regional all-tournament team; he was a second-team all-conference and second-team all-region pick last spring. As a freshman he earned first-team all-region and third-team Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) accolades.
Nardozzi batted .308 with three home runs and 26 RBI's. He tied for the team lead in home runs and ranked second in RBI's and third in batting average. The only Bomber to start all 45 games, he finished with a team-best 15 doubles and scored 34 runs. He was a first-team choice to the Empire 8 all-star team and the District I all-academic team.
The Bombers finished 27-18, won the Empire 8 title and made their 25th NCAA playoff appearance in the past 26 years. Ithaca finished second at the New York Regional playoffs.
