Matt Scheffler completed his 18th year on the Bomber track & field staff in 2023-24, working with the team’s pole vaulters. During that time, he has coached members of both the men’s and women’s programs to school-record performances both indoors and outdoors.
Scheffler was named USTFCCCA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year in 2016, 2021 and 2022 and mentored Katherine Pitman to the school's first-ever national championship in the pole vault during the DIII Outdoor Championships in 2016. Pitman was also a runner-up during indoor nationals that season and would go on to claim three national titles during her career.
In 2021, Meghan Matheny became the next national champion in program history, while Dom Mikula was the national runner-up on the men's side. Matheny would claim another national title during the 2022 indoor season. In 2023, both Matheny and Mikula concluded their careers with national championships at the outdoor championships at St. John Fisher.
In 2017, he coached Pitman to the NCAA Division III national title during the indoor championships and a runner-up showing at outdoors. Scheffler would once again be named USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year in March of 2017. Pitman would go on to be a three-time national champion and owns both indoor and outdoor DIII pole vault records.
At the National Pole Vault Summit in January 2018, Scheffler was tabbed as the Collegiate Coach of the Year.
A 2004 graduate of Brockport, Scheffler won state and conference titles during his collegiate career, while setting the indoor and outdoor school records.
